2NE1 at Cannes Lyons International Festival of Creativity (France)
2NE1 attended the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity as the representative of Korean singers.
The group appeared at the 2012 Cannes Lions held on June 18 in France as a speaker along with the advertising agency Cheil Worldwide.
The group delivered a speech with the theme ‘Korean Wave through Digital Wave’.
A rep from YG Entertainment said on June 19, “2NE1 became MTV Iggy’s Best New Band in the World in December 2011, and this year they were chosen as the most popular K-Pop star among K-pop fans in France. Such achievements came without any local promotions, and this was what brought them to Cannes.”
When asked whether the group feels the global popularity it enjoys as a top K-pop star, member CL answered, “We were surprised at how fans from all over the world would upload cover videos on YouTube of our Korean songs. Digital mediums such as YouTube brought down the boundaries in our music.”
About how 2NE1 managed to become so beloved, she said, “I believe they love us because our Korean passion, energy and our love toward music are contained in 2NE1’s music videos, performances and music.”
2NE1 gave 2NE1 TV as an example of the methods it uses to communicate with its fans in the digital era, and said that while the group is powerful onstage, it tries to be laid back and comfortable when talking with fans anywhere else.
CL finished her speech with a big declaration. “2NE1 still has a lot to show,” she said. “Now, we’ll be changing the world.” CL is known for her fluent English skills which previously made issues on Britain BBC’s main news program Newsday, and this day also she managed to deliver a superb English speech.
2NE1 didn’t leave out the music in its visit, as it performed Can’t Nobody onstage in front of the 1,000-member audience. The Cannes Lions is in its 59th year, and every year gathers globally renowned CEOs and creators.
The seminar which 2NE1 spoke at previously invited big stars such as Will.i.am and Ono Yoko. This year, former President of the United States Bill Clinton, London Olympics organizing committee Chairperson Sebastian Coe, WPP President Martin Sorrell, Nike’s Vice-President Trevor Edwards and Sex and the City producer Michael Patrick King were present. Many important people were there, listening to 2NE1’s Can’t Nobody.
2NE1 strives to continue on its global road by announcing that it will hold a world tour titled New Evolution, becoming the first Korean girl group to go on a world tour. Starting with its Seoul concert to take place from July 28-29, 2NE1 will continue through 10 cities in seven countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia with the help of Live Nation.
